Ah ... the good old days ...
Before the advent of Television, one of my favorite weekend pleasurable experiences was going to the movies. We had a cinema that was located close by and was within walking distance. (Just as well, as the Public Transport was very unreliable.) Everyone referred to the movies as flicks or flix, as that's how they appeared on the screen - flickering moving pictures. I have no recollection of any of the movies that I went to see. It didn't matter what it was - you just HAD to be there. My parents would give me a shilling, (equivalent to 10 cents), and this would get me admission into the theatre, a packet of crunchy crisps AND a drink! Not bad, hey? What's even more surprising, I always had money left over to give back to my parents after my wondrous day out at the flix! |
