Cutting Down the Tall Poppies ...
No matter where or what or who or when … there seems to be an inbuilt mechanism triggered in most of us, to belittle, ridicule, surpass, overpower, beat, or just generally show contempt for people we consider to be: Better off than we are … Smarter than we are … More talented than we are … … etc., etc., etc. For some, it’s a result of ‘sour grapes.’ They can’t stand to see someone being successful when they, themselves, are stuck in a rut. For others, it’s a competition. They have to be the biggest or the best or have the most MySpace friends. In doing so, it gives them a sense of achievement, even though the person they are trying to beat or impress, never ever finds out about their ‘accomplishment,’ and even if they do, they couldn’t really care less. My point? Be happy in all that you do and don’t step on people on the way up, because they will still be there on your way back down again. As we have recently witnessed, fame DOES have a price tag!
