Little me V BIG eBay ...

I am in the process of setting up an eBay Info Store that will be offering EVERYTHING anyone who wants to participate in the Online Auction Arena could EVER want PLUS a little extra from me. (No, this isn't an Ad.)

I chose an appropriate name - ebaytoday - and contacted eBay to get approval that it would be OK to use this as part of my subdomain. I didn't want to infringe any Copyright or Trademark issues. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

FIRST eBAY RESPONSE: Sorry John, you are not allowed to register a domain name that contains our name. HELLO! I never asked if I could register a domain name containing their name. GRRRRR number 1.

I emailed them a courteous reply pointing out that they didn't answer the original question that I had asked, but gave me an answer that was irrelevant to the question.

SECOND eBAY RESPONSE: Sorry for the confusion John. We have investigated your enquiry and advise that you would be infringing our copyright if you used our Logo on your website or on any advertising material. GRRRRR number 2. I wasn't asking permission to use their logo! If the email was in hard copy form, I would have screwed it up and tossed it!

OK - no more Mr Nice Guy. My email back advised of my frustration that I was receiving garbage answers to a quite straight forward question. "Can I please use ebay in part of my subdomain name?" How much clearer could I possibly be?

Bearing in mind that this all started 6 weeks ago, you can appreciate I was getting a little 'fragile' towards anything eBay.

I FINALLY received an answer from yet another Customer Service Representative that was very happy to be in a position to assist me with my enquiry. THEY SAID NO!! HUGE GRRRRR number 3!

Well, sorry folks, but I am not prepared to accept their NO for a final answer, at least not without a fairly detailed explanation as to how and why they had reached that decision. I have read and reread every page on their website concerning their Policies re the use of their name, etc. NOWHERE does it specifically refer to subdomains.

The thing that peeves me the most, is that I am quite within my rights to use a page name of ebaytoday, as in myriad2020.com/ebaytoday.html but not allowed, in their opinion anyway, to use ebaytoday.myriad2020.com.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
