You just received an e-card ...

If YOU get an email with this as the subject line, DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY!

Mine was sent from Greet2k.com [service@greet2k.com] and the To section of the email was blank. Tell-tale sign that all is not on the up and up.

The email itself, read as follows:

================================================

Hello,

A friend had sent you an
electronic e-card
from our Free Electronic
e-Card Service.

Your e-Card number is: 071206121215TiG

This e-Card was created today.

Use the following method to view your e-Card:

simply click on the following link:

I disabled the link so you won't accidentally click it.

The actual link address is httz://top.swheart.com/view.php (Again, I have disabled the link)

With Valentine's Day only days away, they are sending out millions of emails like this, hoping unsuspecting people will click the link and WHAMMO! they take over your computer, connect it with the others they have commandeered using this method, and launch attacks on legitimate websites by overloading their systems with massive amounts of SPAM emails.

It's serious stuff and something that the uninitiated participate in without even knowing it.

The BASIC RULE OF THUMB is:

If you don't know who the email is from and your email address doesn't show in the To: section on the email, DELETE IT!

Be safe now - it's better than being sorry later on.

Contributor's Note

Feel free to copy and paste this message to all of your friends. Leave the links out altogether if they worry you, but I have disabled them by prefixing them with httz://

I noticed a lot of these coming through before Christmas. Where I've used ecards the card has - as you say - the specific email address in the To field. Unfortunately some of the SPAM emails also manage to include a seemingly genuine email address. But the genuine e-cards normally tells you who the card is from by name - not 'A friend' which is very generic.
